{"id":71983,"date":"2024-10-23T08:34:52","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T03:34:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=71983"},"modified":"2024-10-23T08:34:52","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T03:34:52","slug":"us-imposes-curbs-on-pakistani-chinese-and-emirati-firms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/us-imposes-curbs-on-pakistani-chinese-and-emirati-firms\/","title":{"rendered":"US imposes curbs on Pakistani, Chinese and Emirati firms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON<br \/>\nThe US has added more than two dozen entities to a trade blacklist on Monday over alleged support of weapons and drone development programmes in Pakistan and Iran, and other issues, including aiding Russia\u2019s war effort in Ukraine.<br \/>\nThe 26 targets, mostly in Pakistan, China and the United Arab Emirates, were said to have violated export controls, been involved in \u201cweapons programs of concern,\u201d or evaded US sanctions and export controls on Russia and Iran, said the Commerce Department.<br \/>\nTheir addition to the so-called \u201centity list\u201d restricts them from getting US items and technologies without government authorisation.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are vigilant in defending US national security from bad actors,\u201d said Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security Alan Estevez in a statement.<br \/>\n\u201cOur actions today send a message to malicious actors that if they violate our controls, they will pay a price,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nNine of the entities from Pakistan were added for acting as front companies and procurement agents for a Pakistan-based company added to the Entity List in 2014.<br \/>\nThe remaining seven Pakistani entities were added for contributions to Pakistan\u2019s ballistic missile programme, the US Department of Commerce\u2019s Bureau of Industry and Security said on Monday.<br \/>\nSince 2010, the group was said to have procured US-origin items by disguising their end users.<br \/>\nSix entities in China were added to the list for allegedly acquiring US-origin items to support China\u2019s military modernization or to aid Iran\u2019s weapons and drone programs, among other reasons.<br \/>\nAnd three entities in the UAE, alongside another in Egypt, were said to have acquired or attempted to obtain US components to avoid sanctions imposed after Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<br \/>\nThe US Commerce Department also removed Canada-based Sandvine from the entity list, after the company took steps to \u201cto address the misuse of its technology that can undermine human rights.\u201d<br \/>\nThe company had been added to the list in February 2024 \u201cafter its products were used to conduct mass web-monitoring and censorship and target human rights activists and dissidents, including by enabling the misuse of commercial spyware,\u201d the Commerce Department said.<br \/>\nSandvine supplies what is known as deep packet inspection technology, which examines and manages network traffic, and the Pakistan Telecom\u00admunication Authority has been one of its past clients.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON The US has added more than two dozen entities to a trade blacklist on Monday over alleged support of weapons and drone development programmes in Pakistan and Iran, and other issues, including aiding Russia\u2019s war effort in Ukraine.
