{"id":60269,"date":"2024-02-02T10:04:01","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T05:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=60269"},"modified":"2024-02-02T10:04:01","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T05:04:01","slug":"taliban-reject-un-teams-report-on-al-qaeda-camps-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/taliban-reject-un-teams-report-on-al-qaeda-camps-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban reject UN team\u2019s report on Al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: Afghanistan\u2019s Taliban government rejected on Thursday a recent UN Security Council report claiming that new Al-Qaeda training centers have been established on its soil.<br \/>\nThe report was released this week by a UNSC committee pursuant to resolutions concerning Daesh, Al-Qaeda and associated individuals.<br \/>\nIt was based on assessments by the UN sanctions monitoring team, which cites intelligence provided by member states to warn that Al-Qaeda \u201cwas reported to have established up to eight new training camps in Afghanistan\u201d and that it \u201cmaintains safe houses to facilitate the movement between Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.\u201d<br \/>\nThe report also said that Al-Qaeda maintained a \u201cholding pattern in Afghanistan under Taliban patronage.\u201d<br \/>\nTaliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that the allegation was \u201cfalse\u201d and a part of \u201cpropaganda\u201d by the countries that supported Afghanistan\u2019s previous pro-US administration.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is no one related to Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, nor does the Islamic Emirate allow anyone to use the territory of Afghanistan against others,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe UN sanctions team found that a regional affiliate of Daesh \u2014 known as Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K \u2014 remained the \u201cgreatest threat within Afghanistan,\u201d while there was an observed strengthening of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Pakistani Taliban reported to be operating from the country.<br \/>\nThe reports said the TTP was \u201cincreasing attacks with a broader degree of autonomy to manoeuvre\u201d and that \u201cpossibly with support\u201d from Al-Qaeda it was \u201cable to operate from Afghan territory across borders.\u201d Mujahid rejected the assessments as coming from sources that \u201cstood by the occupation for their own interests for the past 20 years,\u201d as he referred to two decades of US-led war, in which NATO forces were stationed in Afghanistan until the Taliban takeover in 2021.<br \/>\nThe war was triggered by an American invasion, which toppled the first Taliban regime, after Washington accused them of sheltering Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda, following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the US.<br \/>\nThe US invasion led to 20 years of bloody fighting between Afghanistan\u2019s new government supported by NATO troops and Taliban forces.<br \/>\n\u201cWe know that some member states of the Security Council have been defeated in Afghanistan, they will naturally spread their hatred and rumors,\u201d Mujahid said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe hope that the UN Security Council remains neutral and does not reflect some opportunistic political and economic goals in its reports, which will ultimately question its status and credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: Afghanistan\u2019s Taliban government rejected on Thursday a recent UN Security Council report claiming that new Al-Qaeda training centers have been established on its soil.
