JAKARTA: Indonesian President \u200cPrabowo Subianto named a new advisory council on Friday that includes tycoons, politicians and influential former Islamic leaders, the latest \u200bin a slew of personnel changes as he grapples with a declining approval rating.<\/p>\n
* Among the 24 new members appointed are local billionaires Dato Sri Tahir, founder of Mayapada Group, and Chairul Tanjung, CT Corp\u2019s founder, whose businesses focus on finance, media, retail, and \u200chospitality.<\/p>\n
* The \u200ccouncil also includes two \u200bformer \u200cleaders \u2060of the Nahdlatul \u200bUlama, \u2060Indonesia\u2019s largest Islamic organization, and four senior politicians from Prabowo\u2019s coalition partners, three of whom are former cabinet ministers.<\/p>\n
* The advisory council was established in 2006 and Prabowo did not appoint any new members in his first two \u2060years in office.<\/p>\n
* The changes follow two \u200ccabinet reshuffles in \u200cthree weeks that have seen new \u200bfinance and foreign ministers \u200cappointed.<\/p>\n
* \u201cThis is an extraordinary opportunity to \u200cshare our experiences,\u201d the council\u2019s head, Pratikno, said after the inauguration.<\/p>\n
* The new appointments are aimed at shoring up Prabowo\u2019s political power base, amid a ratings slide \u200cand public and investor concern about his administration\u2019s policymaking, said Arya Fernandes, an \u2060analyst at \u2060the Center for Strategic and International Studies.<\/p>\n
* \u201cThe big homework is ensuring that this advisory council truly plays a role in formulating strategic policies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
