\nQatari mediators were likely to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York, and separately with the US side \u200bon Monday or Tuesday, an official briefed on the negotiations told \u200cReuters, in a fresh push to end the war.
\nThe talks were expected to focus on an amended version of a seven-day proposal that Iran presented last week on the sidelines of the United \u200bNations General Assembly, said the official, who spoke on condition of \u200banonymity.
\nAraghchi remains in New York after attending the General Assembly. It was not immediately clear who would represent the US side in the talks \u200bwith mediators.
\nIran\u2019s ISNA news agency later confirmed that Araghchi would meet the \u200bmediators in the United States on Monday morning, New York time.
\nThe two sides would \u201cexamine the latest proposals and views regarding the current situation\u201d, ISNA added.
\nIran\u2019s seven-day plan envisages an end \u200bto all hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, the unfreezing of billions of dollars \u200bworth of Iranian assets, an end to sanctions on Iranian oil and the lifting of \u200cthe US blockade on Iranian ports.
\nTehran would then allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the two sides would also resume talks on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme.
\nUS President Donald Trump said on Saturday he had rejected Iran\u2019s proposal, saying Tehran wanted a \u200bswift agreement because of \u200bthe crippling economic pressure it is under.
\nHowever, he also told Axios on Sunday that he expected US negotiators to engage in further talks this \u200bweek.
\nAraghchi said on Sunday that mediators had not formally conveyed \u200ba US rejection to Tehran and that Iran was awaiting Washington\u2019s definitive position before deciding its next steps.
\n\u201cOur conditions are clear, and any move toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz is \u200bcontingent on these conditions being met,\u201d he said \u200bon Sunday, adding that only a negotiated solution could resolve the impasse.

\nIranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran remained open to negotiations but would respond to renewed military action.
\n\u201cWe are fully prepared for the war to resume,\u201d Araghchi told NBC News when asked about the Journal report.
