\nErling Haaland marked another milestone on Thursday after a double in Norway\u2019s 3-2 Nations League victory over Denmark made him the highest-scoring Nordic man in international football history, surpassing Sweden\u2019s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
\nHaaland took his tally for the national team to 64 goals in 56 appearances, eclipsing Ibrahimovic\u2019s 62 goals in 122 matches for Sweden.
\nThe Manchester City striker completed his double in the 74th minute, sealing Norway\u2019s first competitive victory over Denmark.
\n\u201cIt is not possible to explain, nor is it possible to learn. He is born with it. It is instinct,\u201d Norway manager Stale Solbakken said.
\nHaaland, who made his senior international debut in 2019, has scored at a rate of more than 1.1 goals per game for Norway.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s madness,\u201d Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge said. \u201cIt\u2019s everyday business that Haaland scores goals, so it\u2019s reasonable that he is up there, but it\u2019s powerful.\u201d
\nThe 26-year-old also moved past Brazil great Ronaldo, who scored 62 international goals before retiring in 2011. Former Sweden women\u2019s forward Lotta Schelin holds the overall Nordic international record with 88 goals.
\nHaaland\u2019s clinical finishing dominated the reaction in Denmark.
\n\u201cNorway has him, and they should be thankful for that on a night where his sheer ruthlessness ensured the Norwegians secured the bragging rights,\u201d Danish broadcaster DR analyst Michael Sten Jensen said.
\nDanish newspaper B.T. wrote that Denmark were \u201cbrutally punished by Norway\u2019s most dangerous man.\u201d
\nDenmark striker Rasmus Hojlund acknowledged the unique threat posed by the forward. \u201cErling has a way of finding the path to the goal,\u201d Hojlund said. \u201cSo in that sense it comes as no surprise, but at the same time it frustrates me.\u201d
