\nEleven people have been injured in a shooting outside a high school in Turkey, with police detaining a 15-year-old male suspect.
\nTwo people were left in critical conditions after a gunman opened fire before fleeing on Tuesday morning,
\nIt happened at the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the western province of Manisa, with the injured reportedly all students.
\nThe suspect\u2019s mother, father, and grandfather \u2013 who reportedly owned the weapon \u2013 have also been detained, according to the country\u2019s justice minister Ak\u0131n G\u00fcrlek.
\nIt is the third school shooting in Turkey this year and comes as the government continues to grapple with how to address the recent spate of violence.
\nCCTV footage appeared to show the suspect walking through empty streets checking a shotgun, which is clearly visible. He is casually dressed and appears unhurried.
\nLater footage showed the apparent suspect, who is reportedly a student at the school, running from the scene with the weapon still in hand.
\nThe motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.
\nAccording to Turkish law, the teenager is required to appear before a court before being officially arrested.
\nIn a statement, Turkey\u2019s education ministry said the incident had \u201cdeeply saddened our nation, and our educational community in particular\u201d.
\nIt said that three national investigators from the ministry had been sent to Manisa.
\nTwo deadly school shootings in April caused outrage in Turkey and led to new security measures for the 2026-2027 academic year, including tighter gun controls.
\nBefore then, the country did not have a history of school shootings.
