Two-time Asian Games winners Pakistan women will face Thailand on Thursday, September 17 in the 2026 iteration of the event in one of the four quarter-final matches. All the matches are set to take place at Korogi Athletic Park in Aichi Perfecture.
\nPakistan\u2019s fixture against Thailand will begin at 10am Pakistan time. The two teams recently met in the ACC Women\u2019s Asia Cup, where Pakistan emerged victorious by 35 runs in Dubai, said a press release.
\nFatima Sana-led Pakistan women\u2019s 14-member squad arrived straight from United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Japan after taking part in the ACC Women\u2019s Asia Cup. Fatima will also be Pakistan contingent\u2019s flag-bearer along with squash player Noor Zaman in the opening ceremony of the event on September 19.
\nWicketekeeper-batter Muneeba Ali Siddiqui returned home due to her mother\u2019s illness and will not take part in the tournament. Gull Feroza will step in a wicket-keeper in Muneeba\u2019s absence.
\nAliya Riaz, Tasmia Rubab and Humna Bilal replaced Sadaf Shamas, Waheeda Akhtar and Sadia Iqbal from the Asia Cup squad for the Asian Games.
\nThe eight-team tournament comprises of Bangladesh, China, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Malaysia and Pakistan. The semi-finals of the tournament will be played 20 September, while the Gold and Bronze Medal matches will be played on September 22.
\nPakistan women\u2019s cricket team became the Gold Medalists in 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and in 2014 event in Incheon.
\nFatima Sana, Pakistan women\u2019s captain said, \u201cWe are excited to compete in the Asian Games and it is an honour to be a part of Pakistan\u2019s contingent in this event. All the matches include great consequence and for that we will have to be on our toes right from the first games against Thailand.
\n\u201cI\u2019m sure the team will give their best in our pursuit of the Medal. It is also going to be a great experience playing cricket here in Japan. We will look to make this a memorable trip not just for us but also for the fans supporting Pakistan women\u2019s team.
