VILNIUS: NATO fighter jets shot down a drone over Lithuania, the country\u2019s President Gitanas Nauseda said Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Baltic states Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia \u2014 NATO members sharing a long border with Russia \u2014 regularly report drone incursions into their territories as part of Moscow\u2019s war with Ukraine.<\/p>\n
\u201cA drone that just entered Lithuanian airspace was destroyed by NATO fighter jets,\u201d Nauseda wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith Russia intensifying its aggression against Ukraine, such readiness is vital for our region,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
According to Lithuanian public radio LRT, which cited the National Crisis Management Center (NKVC), the drone crashed in a rural area near Lake Kaunas, in the country\u2019s central region.<\/p>\n
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys in a post on X thanked allies \u201cwhose presence helps protect our skies and strengthens our security.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is best example of Allied unity and resolve in action \u2014 sending a clear message that NATO stands vigilant, committed, and ready,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
