{"id":102168,"date":"2026-08-27T13:08:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T08:08:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=102168"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:08:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T08:08:33","slug":"desperate-families-search-for-missing-after-nepal-floods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/desperate-families-search-for-missing-after-nepal-floods\/","title":{"rendered":"Desperate families search for missing after Nepal floods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Katmandu: Anxious relatives crowded the corridors of a Katmandu hospital Thursday as they searched for missing family after devastating floods on the Nepal-Tibet border killed at least 180 people.<\/p>\n<p>Among them was Subash Khatani, scanning lists and speaking to officials in the hope of finding news of his elder brother, one of the hundreds unaccounted for after the disaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy elder brother Ram Sharan Rasaili is among those missing in Rasuwa. That\u2019s why we are out searching for him,\u201d Khatani told AFP at the government-run Bir hospital in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a tsunami-like wall of water and mud swept through villages and towns along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, with Nepali police saying they had recovered 177 bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Rasuwa in northern Nepal was the first district hit. But deaths were reported in seven districts as floodwaters surged more than 160 kilometers (100 miles) south to Chitwan, near the Indian border.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the disaster was not immediately clear, but the US Geological Survey said it was a glacial collapse that caused seismic activity and the \u201ccatastrophic\u201d downstream impacts in Nepal and Tibet.<\/p>\n<p>Chitra Bahadur Nepali was looking for his nephew Yubraj Sewak, a driver who had been traveling toward the worst-affected Rasuwa district before contact was lost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy nephew was on his way to Rasuwa and was in contact with my sister until about 8:00 am yesterday,\u201d Nepali, 52, said, showing his photograph on his phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not heard from him since the flood. His name is not on any of the lists we have seen, and another member of our family is also missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As rescue teams scoured for survivors in the flood-ravaged districts, families moved between hospitals and police helpdesks, desperately hoping for word on those missing.<\/p>\n<p>The Bir hospital said it would treat all victims for free and was \u201cfully prepared\u201d to handle the surge in patients, local media reported.<\/p>\n<p>In Nepal, 823 people \u2014 including 579 tourists from both Nepal and abroad \u2014 remained out of contact, according to the country\u2019s disaster agency.<\/p>\n<p>In Tibet, Chinese state media said that the \u201cmudslide disaster\u201d had killed three people, while 558 people, including 260 foreigners, were missing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katmandu: Anxious relatives crowded the corridors of a Katmandu hospital Thursday as they searched for missing family after devastating floods on the Nepal-Tibet border killed at least 180 people.
