BANGKOK: Myanmar\u2019s detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi \u200bmet with a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross on Monday, a spokeswoman for the Myanmar government said, amid concerns over the health of the 81-year-old.<\/p>\n
The Nobel Prize \u200cwinner has \u200cbeen in detention \u200bsince \u200cFebruary 2021 \u2060when \u200bMyanmar\u2019s military \u2060ousted an elected civilian government led by her in a dawn coup, plunging the impoverished Southeast Asian nation into turmoil.<\/p>\n
Since then, Suu Kyi\u2019s exact whereabouts \u2060and health conditions have been difficult \u200cto determine, \u200cwith no foreign \u200bleader or envoy having \u200cpublicly met her.<\/p>\n
On Monday, \u200cSuu Kyi met with Arnaud de Baecque, Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to \u200cMyanmar in the capital Naypyitaw, government spokeswoman Khine Khine Soe \u2060said \u2060in a message via Telegram.<\/p>\n
The ICRC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n
